Village Hall

In the 1950's the people of what was then a very small village began to raise money to build a village hall for community use.  After 8 years, sufficient money had been raised to build a prefabricated hall, and this was built in 1965.  It was officially opened by the Hon Michael Mason of Eynsham Hall, who also commemorated the event by planting an oak tree.

The Hall was leased from the Parish Council for 60 years (extended in 2009 by ten years).  The Village Hall Management Committee was set up with three appointed trustees and representatives of the Village organisations to undertake the maintenance, upkeep and insurance of the property.

The statutory officers (elected at the Annual General Meeting in February) are currently: Chairman Peter Newell; Vice-Chairman Terry Jones; Secretary Joyce Williams and Treasurer Lisa Smith.

The Fundraising Officer (from February 2010) is Robert Crocker.

The Booking Clerk is Maria Admans, who is also the Hall Cleaner.

The organisations are represented by,  Parish Council: Joyce Williams, and Gardening Club: Terry Jones.  Co-opted member: Bill Phillips.

In May 2009 a Village Hall Working Group was set up by the Parish Council to develop plans for rebuilding the Village Hall.  Details of how this project is progressing can be found on the Website under New Village Hall Project - Rebuilding the Village Hall.

For any event at which it is intended to sell alcohol an application needs to be made for a licence. This is done through the West Oxfordshire District Council and a copy must also be sent to the Police.     Please also send a copy of the licence to the Secretary (Joyce Williams, 01993-881-784) to co-ordinate the applications, as the Village Hall is permitted only 12 licences per year.
